LOVELY SCREECH
Collage, 8x10"
$70

I have learned so much during this month even though I am not even close to having 30 paintings by the end of the month.  This is Number 17 and I am learning that more pigment is necessary for the different values and colors to show especially in photos.  Also the light matters so much when the photo is being taken.  For instance, the orange showing up here is much more of a yellow/goldish hue.  I might take another photo in different light and compare the two.  Later,

30 in 30 - Another Cheat

SOFT PETALS
17x17" Collage on Wood
$288

I was given this piece of wood and have been working it for possibly a year.  I used a bit of plaster to get the surface a little grainy in sections.  I think I planned for the frame to be kept as a frame and then when I finally began placing the petals onto it, they just wanted to be totally across and not limited.

I have another piece of this wood with the frame already on it and it is covered in oils right now.  Maybe I'll go find it (in the safe place where all paintings go to ferment) and see where it takes me.

30 in 30, Flowers

Abstracted Colors
8x10" Acrylic
$70
Well actually this began as yellows, blues and reds kind of slapped on the 8x10 piece of canvas paper.
This was to be the beginning of a layer piece.  I let the paint dry and was ready to place another layer or two onto it, when suddenly these popped up.  I added some line to define these guys a little, and voila!  I like it.

JUST BEGINNING
Collage, 6x8"
$60

So many times I have thought of life, the different phases of life, the learning times, the choices, judgements, mistakes, blah blah blah.    In one's last act, feelings of the young are of sunshine and the wonderment that can cause such joy.

30 in 30 - Warm Places

We sometimes search for the fuzzy place, the physical or mental area where we can be taken care of and calm.  It can be when we awaken, when we get stressed or just when...

Journal

Cheating today and posting a page from my art journal.  I am doing an online art journal class with
Katie Kendrick this week and decided to share this one page which I began last year and still work on from time to time.  It's probably still not finished but maybe...

OUT OF THE NEST
6x8" Collage
$60

This is about 52 layers of paint!  Yes, I began with copper background and did a very willowy plantlike structure in a beautiful Emerald.  I was inspired by an ad for a deodorant!  After placing the two colors on some texture I fooled around with the design until I had a mushy mess.

I decided to cover the whole thing up with some gesso and yellow and since I love the combination of pink and yellow, I came up with this composition which reminds me of grasses, dirt and possibly some wild flowers.  I am laying in the foreground just coming awake and thinking I gotta get out of here.

30 in 30, Yay! Back on Schedule

I see so many combinations of colors in magazines and on the internet.  There are ads with the perfectly matched style, colors, and textures; educational articles informing us on the color palette of the year for our homes; and then the many varied and exceptional images that are included in the many books and articles that I read.

I'm sharing an image of my latest piece in progress.  The advertisement in the lower right corner is of some earrings which I greatly admire, mostly for the colors.

The final piece is at left.  I used some ephemeral pieces of birds.  The piece is a little busy, but I'm liking it.  Instead of going further with it I am deciding to leave it as is.  After all I want to get started on my painting for tomorrow.

30 in 30, Happy Feelings

Sometimes certain colors give me a feeling.  These pastels, blue and yellow, are really making me happy right now.  It's rainy, cold and so gloomy this time of year the yellow bottle of paint really called to me.

Diffused Luster

6x8" Acrylics

$60

I fell in love over the weekend with Iridescent Copper paint.  I've had a bottle of it for a couple years only using it sparingly in order that I don't overdo.  I discovered a glob of the color on my palette so  decided to blend it with other colors and gels.  I got to this luscious earthy luster (there's a kind of shine to it).  The blue was just the touch to diffuse the luminosity a tad.

After all, a woman never wants to overdo...or does she?

30 in 30-- Tadaaaaaa

Still in a Dream

Collage, 6x8"

$60

This began as a piece of Canva Paper which is about 160 lb. paper coated to be used with acrylics or oils.  I placed some pictures of tiny birds, some flannel that I found which I liked for its color, and other ephemera that I collect for this purpose. I found the color palette I thought would work which was predominantly blue/green.  After several layers of pigment I added the line work and darkened some of the birds that were part of my first layer because I like them coming through.

I'm stopping now that I am happy with the piece, even though my intention was for there to be a tiny bit of warm, not almost half.

One thing this 30 in 30 exercise is teaching me is that color and value are very important for allowing the viewer to see the work online.   I think that art, especially original art, is much richer and meaningful when viewed in person.

5th Day Already - 30 in 30

Pale Caressing Gleam

Collage, 6x8" $60

So yellow is probably my all time favorite color.  It makes me feel warm and happy, giggly even at times; reminds me of the sun, summer, and sunshine on my shoulder.   When I was younger the brighter the yellow the more I was in love; now I find the soft and creamy yellow to be more to my liking, a more calm and caressing influence.

Of course the yellowest yellow of all is gold...and well isn't gold a part of everything?
